Joe is a litigation, dispute resolution and regulatory lawyer in Webb Henderson’s Sydney office, practicing in the areas of litigation, competition and consumer law, financial services and corporate regulation. He has worked on a range of complex commercial disputes and large multi-party litigation in the Federal Court of Australia and various State Supreme Courts and a number of large regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings both for and against government regulators, including the ACCC and ASIC, and for various corporations and senior directors, officers and executives.

Joe’s practice focuses on:

  • acting for corporations, individuals and insureds in in civil and criminal proceedings in respect of directors’ duties, continuous disclosure, insolvency and voidable transaction provisions of the Corporations Act (Cth) and at general law.
  • representing the ACCC in investigations and enforcement proceedings for breaches of Part IV of the Competition and Consumer Act and the Australian Consumer Law.
  • representing ASIC in investigations and enforcement proceedings for breaches of the Corporations Act and the ASIC Act.
  • representing and advising corporate and individual clients in dealings with regulators, including investigations and enforcement proceedings brought by ASIC and the ACCC.
  • acting in large class actions and multi-party litigation arising out of corporate collapses, insolvency, shareholder and insurance disputes.
  • representing individuals in white-collar criminal proceedings and internal and external investigations arising from allegations of criminal conduct.
  • acting as independent legal advisor to directors, officers and senior employees in regulatory investigations, enforcement proceedings and disputes.
  • representing and advising companies and individuals in disputes and proceedings arising out of corporate collapses, insolvency and significant, large scale contractual disputes.

  • the former Chairman of ASX-listed mining company, TerraCom, in civil penalty proceedings commenced by ASIC alleging contraventions of directors duties and disclosure obligations.
  • a former director of Dick Smith, in directors’ duties proceedings commenced by receivers arising from the collapse of Dick Smith.
  • the former CFO of Leighton Holdings (now CIMIC) in white collar criminal proceedings arising from allegedly false transactions and payments.
  • an ASX-listed infrastructure services provider in civil cartel proceedings brought by the ACCC.
  • the former CFO of Dixon Advisory in class action proceedings arising from investments in certain overseas residential property funds.
  • an international building materials manufacturer in multi-party proceedings arising from alleged building defects.
  • Allco Finance Group in shareholder class action proceedings arising from the collapse of Allco Finance Group.
  • the former Managing Director of the Australian arm of a multinational mining and energy group in proceedings alleging breaches of directors and fiduciary duties.
  • a telecommunications company in proceedings brought by a former employee alleging contraventions of the Whistleblower provisions of the Corporations Act.
  • the former company secretary of an online logistics company in white collar criminal proceedings arising from a capital raising and initial public offering.
  • various individuals, directors & officers and senior executives in regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings, internal investigations, commercial disputes and class action proceedings.
