Garth is a highly experienced corporate lawyer. He provides strategic legal and commercial advice to boards and senior management and advises on a wide range of transactions and projects, working closely with the client.

Garth acts for a broad spectrum of clients, including international and domestic companies (both listed and privately owned), financial sponsors, high net worth families, and individuals, shareholders, company boards and directors.

His expertise includes advising on major business acquisitions and dispositions; joint venture arrangements, buy-outs and other forms of domestic and offshore investment; capital structure requirements; corporate restructurings, other major commercial transactions and contracts, stock exchange listing requirements; and shareholder and governance arrangements.

He also advises leading infrastructure companies on the full range of infrastructure projects. He’s been involved in the construction of high voltage electrical and fibre optic asset systems, water and wastewater assets, the establishment of geothermal and wind generation plants, and other major asset procurement and installation projects.

In particular, Garth has advised:

  • Pacific Equity Partners on its investment in the FirstCape joint venture with NAB and Jarden;
  • Refining NZ (now Channel Infrastructure) on its transformation from an oil refinery business to a fuels terminal operator;
  • SKYCITY Entertainment Group on the New Zealand International Convention Centre project;
  • Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), a Spanish entity, on the sale and maintenance of new electric trains for Auckland with KiwiRail and Auckland Transport; and
  • Vector in relation to numerous matters, including for more than 25 years on its key contracts governing the terms of access of retailers to its Auckland electricity network.
